From its early beginnings in 1968 as a mobile clinic to its current-day formal structure, the Gottenburg Clinic has played a vital role for the nine surrounding rural communities that it serves. April 2023 marked the completion of extensive clinic renovations supported by Africa Foundation and its donors, which included a comprehensive upgrade of all the clinic buildings. This new infrastructure enhanced the quality of support services and treatment provided to residents, including maternal care, neonatal and under-5 healthcare, family planning, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Africa Foundation and andBeyond are working in collaboration with the Gottenburg Community, the Mpumalanga Department of Health, and the Gottenburg Clinic Committee to make more crucial improvements to the clinic including the renovation and conversion of existing Enviro Loo ablutions and installation of a solar power system.
